Most of the traffic in the Internet comes from CDN (Content Delivery Network) servers. This way of delivering content is used by Google (YouTube), Facebook, Polish TV, TVN and many other global and Polish carriers.
So as to deliver traffic to ISPs by using IX or private peering, CDN servers deserve dedicated infrastructure: Data Center power and space, IP addresses and network infrastructure: switches, BGP router etc.
This infrastructure let servers appear in Open Peering or exchange traffic with private peers.
Content PoP is set of such infrastructure services dedicated for CDN owners, that are interested in delivering their traffic to Open Peering of TPIX
or to TPNET network (AS5617). CDN owners receive power&space in numerous Orange Data Center together with possibility of regional traffic exchange with regions of AS5617 network. One of the Data Centers is located in Warsaw and gives access both to Warsaw region of AS5617
and to Open Peering members of TPIX exchange. Content PoP Data Centers outside Warsaw are located in all major Polish cities:
Gdańsk, Szczecin, Olsztyn, Białystok, Poznań, Bydgoszcz, Kielce, Lublin, Wrocław, Katowice, Kraków and Rzeszów.
Possibility of regional connectivity with content traffic sources located not only in Warsaw but in parallel in close big city gives to connected ISPs much better quality due to much lower RTT. Much shorter distance usually means for ISP also possibility to avoid more expensive WDM and use fibers instead.
Content PoP accepts from ISPs more specific prefixes – it helps to localize ISPs traffic and reduce bandwidth in their core network.
Content PoP ports or VLANs to closest Content PoP from remote access ports are offered to ISPs in the same offer with centralized TPIX ports
or VLANs. CDN owners distribute them to numerous Content PoPs signing with Orange Polska dedicated agreement that should be tailored
to the needs of specific CDN architecture.
